PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
In the fall of 1992, the Beneficial Uses Group (BUG), a coalition of eight government agencies, presented a conceptual plan to build wildlife habitat with the material from the Houston-Galveston Ship Channel. The plan was adopted by the Interagency Coordination Team (ICT), a group which created the BUG in 1990, and received unanimous support from all federal and state resource agencies, the Port of Houston Authority, (PHA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which both funded the project. The 930-acre site is made up of three containment cells that have been filled and were planted to create a marsh. A continuing concern of the BUG was the sediment transport and where the excess material from the project was going.

Retained as the coastal engineer by the Port of Houston to study, report, and determine the cause and effects of excess sediment introduced into the current sediment transport budget

Monitor and manage the Bolivar Marsh Site

Providing engineering and surveying services to determine the short-term and long-term sediment issues

Performing physical monitoring surveys of the marsh site to determine a sediment budget

Surveys include hydrographic and topographic surveys, aerial photography, surficial sampling within the site and in surrounding waters
