SERVICES: Hydrographic Surveying
GBA is a pioneer in the field of hydrographic surveying and has a broad range of experience and background surveying for every major port in the United States. We have provided hydrographic and topographic surveys for federal, state and local agency clients and private industry clients.
Our primary focus is on port and offshore navigation channel dredging projects, harbor and river surveys, and beach nourishment projects. As a member of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Industry Hydrographic Surveying Committee, GBA helped to establish the standards for dredging payment surveys in the U.S. Hydrographic surveys performed by GBA meet or exceed standards set by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
GBA has worked with the USACE Los Angeles District since 1989 on some of the largest dredging projects in our nation. We have provided hydrographic surveys, design services and quality assurance inspections for the construction of the major terminals for the Port of Long Beach and the Port of Los Angeles. These projects consisted of monitoring the following with hydrographic surveys and QA inspections:
- Trench dredging for foundation improvement
- Creation of containment dikes with the associated armor stone
- Sand berm placement for structural stability
- Geotechnical review of material types for construction suitability
- Fill improvements with wicking, stone columns and compaction
In addition to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and private dredging contractors, GBA has provided condition and payment surveys as design and construction management tools to most of the nation’s largest port authorities.
GBA’s survey team includes professional land surveyors and ACSM certified hydrographers.
